Photography shaped by place.
Clay shaped by hand.

Gonzalo Gatto works between image and material to document territory as lived experience.

Two men are standing outdoors near green foliage. One man, wearing a white tank top, looks upset or concerned. The other man, with long hair and tattoos, is holding a framed black-and-white photograph of a woman sitting on the ground, with a serious expression on his face.

Un encuentro con la raíz

Part of this body of work originates in Uayma, Yucatán, through an ongoing collaboration with the Espadas family, whose clay tradition informs both the material and conceptual foundation of the project.

What began as a photographic process gradually expanded through shared time, labor, and presence.

Through years of working alongside the Espadas family, Gonzalo’s relationship with clay shifted.

What was first observed through the lens began to be shaped by hand.

The material entered the process not as subject, but as practice.

Selected works by Gonzalo Gatto are available for curated installations, private collections, and commissioned projects.
